Hello Venice _ Update 26.12.2011

The Ducal Palace
A masterpiece of Gothic art, the Doge's Palace is an impressive structure of layers of building elements and ornamentation by the ancient foundations, the fourteenth-fifteenth of the whole, to the renaissance additions and opulent Mannerist details.Consists of three large buildings that have put together the old buildings:

The wing to the Basin of San Marco (which contains the Hall of Great Council) and is the oldest, rebuilt in 1340; The wing on the Square (formerly Palace of Justice) with the Hall of Scrutiny, whose construction began in its present form since 1424; The Renaissance wing, with the Doge's residence and many government offices, rebuilt between 1483 and 1565.

The entrance for the public to the Ducal Palace is the Gate of wheat, so called because it was next to the '"Office of the Blade," which opens under the portico of the facade facing the fourteenth-century St. Mark's Basin. The ground floor housed the public services and the Museum of the Opera, the area of the old kitchens of the Doge, which now houses a cafe-bar, is equipped to house temporary exhibitions.

The path to the upper rooms of the building first passes through the magnificent courtyard, and continues with the plan of the lodges and visit the precious rooms of the Doges, the first floor, and Institutional rooms are located on the second floor and Lodges of the plan, ending finally with a visit to the Armoury and Prisons (next post).
