In 1986, the film director Roman Polanski decided to make the film Pirates (Pirates) with the famous actor Walter Matthau in the title role. As set, the director decided to use a precise historical reconstruction of a galleon of 1600, specially built by a Tunisian site.

Aquarium of Genoa

The Aquarium of Genoa is the first largest aquarium in Italy and the second in Europe after the one in Valencia, Spain. It is located in Ponte Spinola, ancient port of Genoa in the sixteenth century, in a structure designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and can be reached from Genoa Principe railway station, underground station ;San Giorgio; and from the highway west of Genoa.

It was inaugurated in 1992 for the Columbus celebrations, that the Expo to celebrate the five hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America, was later extended several times. At the time of its opening was the second largest aquarium in the world.

The path of about 2 hours and 30 minutes unfolds over a total area of 9,700 square meters. The original body (39 tanks) provides a path in the middle of ponds which are home to many reptiles and fish, and reconstruct the original habitats of the species, with clear educational purpose.

Of particular value are the three large tanks that contain, respectively, dolphins, sharks and, third, seals and turtles as well as countless other species of fish. The dolphins are not always visible to the public because they are moved in rotation in 3 tanks, of which only one is visible to the public.

The expansion of the aquarium has been exploiting the spaces of the hull of a ship (ship called Italy) which has a large amount of open ponds.Registered trademark of the Aquarium of Genoa.

In many of these visitors can dip their hands and touching live fish (tanks tactile). There are only marine species, but also animals of the rain forests or freshwater.

The aquarium water is drawn off the coast and is housed in four tanks on the side of the two plans. The water is cleaned and disinfected and then placed in the tanks, all equipped with mechanical and biological filtration systems.

In 2008 it was visited by 1,212,000 people.
